We bought out house 4 years ago, and it's taken me until now to even feel like it was cute enough to show off. I love that our place has tons of light and is a big open loft type space, but because of that, it took a while for it to feel like HOME. When I visited Amsterdam a few years ago, I really got my heart set on a minimalistic and clean Norwegian style for our home. We decided to do the "white envelope" and keep all the curtains and walls white and fresh.
The first thing we bought was this custom made sofa. I wanted it big enough to fit my very tall husband, and to wrap around the room. Making custom furniture can be pricey, but it was a really important element to the room. Sadly, right after we made this couch that I LEGIT COULD NOT FIND ANYWHERE, store began to make budget friendly versions. #badweek
I custom made my Barcelona chairs too. They are WAY out of my price range. I actually watched Craigslist for months until I found a couple getting rid of their old chairs. The leather was completely ruined and the foam filling was rotten, and completely smelled like mold, and the leather straps that hold the cushions needed some serious love. I bought the frames for $300. Used some leather oil on the straps, and then bought beautiful Mexician blanket fabric online. I took the fabric to a shop and they made me these cushions for $200!!! Such a steal!
I found my rug at West Elm. THEY HAVE FREE SHIPPING RIGHT NOW! I just love furry shag rugs, and I felt like it gave the room so much warmth. The great thing about West Elm is that this rug is great quality but not SOOOO spendy that if Hobo ruins it I will care.
I love the custom shelving we did on our feature wall. We played around with getting store bought shelving, but we couldn't find anything that was the proper scale for such a big room. Our floating credenza was based on a pinterest Ikea hack! (Also, my favorite thing I did was have my contractor HIDE the TV cords in my wall and patch and paint it up. I love NOT SEEING the cords and having out TV floating, and it was super cheap.
We bought the cabinets at Ikea and then bought the fancy fronts at a store in Amsterdam called Super Fronts, and it cost an arm and a leg to have them shipped from all the way over there! Brit + Co posted a great blog about other options. We then had our contractor apply fake plaster "cement" to the top of the shelves and it's one of a kind and amazing!
I waited 7 months my Anthropologie to restock my dream coffee table. I love raw edged wood, and I'm obsessed with this table everytime I binge watch in front of it. The good news there are tons of options for wooden tables.
Decorating my shelves was my favorite part of the project, some items I had from our last home, and some i bought new. I love having little plants around and fresh flowers. I framed some photos of us, stacked with my love of my coffee table book collection. I also used a piece of art created by my husbands family so make the room feel cozy.
PS. this is my FAVORITE photo of CK and I. We were at a wedding in ITALY, and the couple blasted of fireworks over the hills of lavender at night, a guest caught CK and I smooching and then sent us the pic! Such a wonderful memory!
I added special touched to the coffee table and couch like fun throw pillows and some of my favorite books, and fresh flowers! I'm always moving these things around, but I love to light a smelly candle while I am watching tv.
My favorite item in my entire house is my felt board! My hubs and I take turns changing the sayings, and it's super fun when we have parties to customize the room!
I also LOVE my West Elm planter with my favorite plant (the PONYTAIL PALM!) I also have a concrete one in my office. I like the wooden legs that pull the whole look together!
I also am obsessed with my dining table from West Elm, and if you are looking for the PERFECT reclaimed wood table- you need this one! I have NEVER regretted investing in this piece!
Next I am going to focus on my bedroom, but I hope you liked this little tour. Let me know in the comments below or on my INSTAGRAM if you have any questions or need tips!
