Bye Bye Body Acne!
Look, I know it's gross, but someone's gotta talk about it. Body acne sucks. Maybe you're embarrassed to talk about it with your friends. Or maybe you're embarrassed to wear clothes that show your back. But I promise you, body acne (and especially back acne aka bacne) is something that most humans struggle with. And if you really tackle those nasty problems head on, you will see results! I was actually inspired to write this blog after seeing a post in our secret LadyGang Facebook group, so I crowdsourced the best solutions to create the ultimate anti-bacne routine!
I started using a dry brush to try to help with the appearance of my cellulite, but I kept using it because it really seemed to help my skin condition, especially on my back. Dry brushing exfoliates and removes dry skin that can clog pores, increases blood circulation, and helps rid the boxy of toxins. Do a round of dry brushing right before you jump in the shower for best results!
Shower time! I cannot say it enough: THIS STUFF IS MAGIC. Made from the ashes of locally harvested plants like plantains, cocoa pods, and shea tree bark, African Black Soap is the ultimate solution for irritated skin. African Black Soap isn't just good for bacne...it's great for a bunch of other skin conditions like eczema, rosacea, rashes, burns, and inflammation. Use this with a shower body brush for extra exfoliation. Sure, it looks like a turd, but you're gonna love it. But you can get it in liquid form if you're really freaked out. Another favorite acne body wash is Neutrogena Body Clear Body Wash.
I've been using the Murad Clarifying Body Spray body spray for yeaaaaaaars. The salicylic acid digs deep to clear your pores, and the antibacterial ingredients keep your skin clean. The bottle sprays upside down, which helps reaching the tough areas of your back. Use this right after the shower, and make sure to let it dry completely before getting dressed. Honorable mention: aNeutrogrena Body Clear Body Spray.
These Proactiv Clear Zone Body Pads are great for on-the-go. They contain the same acne fighting ingredient (salicylic acid) but are way more convenient than carrying a big bottle around. Great to throw in your gym bag or take to work. These are made for the body and are quite strong, so don't try using these on your precious face! And if you're on a budget, the Oxy Daily Body Pads are a fraction of the cost and have great reviews (though I've never tried them myself).
There are mixed reviews about the Rapid Clear Spot Gel on Amazon, with most of the negative reviews saying it causes major redness and dryness on the face. The 10% benzoyl peroxide may be a bit too strong to use on sensitive skin, but is great for spot treating any stubborn bacne outbreaks! Other notable mentions for spot treatments are the Osmia Organics Spot Treatment & the Origins Super Spot Remover Gel.
And some last minute tips and tricks:
Shower immediately after working out. Sitting in sweaty workout clothes is gross and is a cesspool for bacteria.
Try staying away from hot yoga or other "hot" workouts. I learned this the hard way after breaking out after hot yoga, even when I showered immediately afterwards.
Make sure your conditioner is completely washed out in the shower. That residual goop will clog your pores right up.
If you're a naturally sweaty person, try showering before bed every night.a
Wear loose cotton clothing or breathable clothes that wick away sweat, especially while working out.
Wash your bedding regularly. You don't wanna be sleeping in your residual dirt every night.
